QUINCY — Quincy Center will see its first major commercial development in decades under a new deal between the city and a private developer already remaking much of Quincy.

The agreement inked this week between city councilors and developer FoxRock Properties paves the way for a 200,000-square-foot medical office building and 140-room hotel to be built downtown, which in recent years has been home to a series of largely residential developments.

Earlier this year, FoxRock Properties announced it was partnering with South Shore Hospital and Brigham and Women’s to bring in a variety of medical services, including ambulatory surgery, urgent care and specialty care.
